THE LAST TIME I SAW THE BEACH WE WORE our white trousers I WENT out to the Boat House with these two beautiful women on this misty Afternoon. Tomorrow morning high winds and surf would take it away. The page remembers one last afternoon at the beach just before weather and surf erase the scene.

Its power comes from delay. Even though the place was said to be rebuilt, the speaker still cannot bring himself to return, so memory remains more vivid than recovery.

Prose-poem memory - THE LAST TIME I SAW THE BEACH, white trousers, going out to the Boat House with two beautiful women on a misty afternoon before morning high winds and surf take it away. They say the pier stayed with that sea and everything that went under was built back up, but I have not gone back to see it. Elegiac pier piece.
