At a moment Animal wanted to lay his cheek in his palm and dream, but on each chance of checking Colonel possibilities continued dead center to his street goals. Colonel had a short story to tell, and it wasn't of slumber. "What I need Colonel is an erector set for a diagram." Colonel didn't answer that. He waited. Colonel turns his trapped feeling into a material fantasy of trucks, equipment, and hauling Los Angeles away, making escape sound like construction work.

As midnight nears and 'The city lights grew over the moon', Animal stays 'dead center to his street goals' rather than dream, and the Colonel offers 'a short story... wasn't of slumber'. The talk turns to building tools - Animal wants 'an erector set for a diagram', then 'a couple trucks', then 'Heavy equipment; Don't need to be a dragon, just a cat' - swelling into comic scale: 'Someday I'll hire African elephants with Pittsburgh chains, and we'll haul away L.A.' Offered 'the bread to do my own building', the Colonel boasts that 'With bucks behind me, it would take Egypt to pull me and my buildings down.'
