The camera in an instant of the shot goes from hand
and gun over Animal's body to a sky, where there will
most likely be only black, no stars, because of ob-
vious city beaming bright lights.
The scene shoots into O'Mahoney's Tavern catching the
poet returning from his brief wonder to the beach,
in his approach to the long table where gathered is
the crowd; the Fox stands up with flushed face and
turned up smiling mouth and gives this toast; well
boys, here it is to a hard days work tomorrow. The camera
comes from a bunch of whiskey shot glasses and follow-
logs to the foxes mouth with the glass he has picked
up. With this the mummy of the group, characterized
as an old buddy of Earl Films says, "I think the Fox
deserves a show on that one." With this there is a
steady drowning boo by all, and the camera twirls up
above the still raised whiskey glasses of the men
ready to finished the toasting, to the lights of the bar,
all the lights and what they produce in reflection
upon the ceiling, and there is induced that dimness
of colored light mingling in the smoke damp air, until
they quickly spin themselves out into the same sort of
black incurred upon the death bound by the lights the
Animal was attempting to reach in order to escape from
such actual death.
At the beginning of the house scene, the Fox tells his
men that anyone who feels that he is doing something
wrong may and should leave; Big Al, or the large American,
chooses to do so; and for the first time is seen a solemn
face on the wise man winking, slowly away.
