It was the next day; a Saturday at sunrise. Animal was running under the Santa Monica Pier, heading North. Prankster was at the Malibu rocks. He had taken methedrine through the needle, and been on the beach through the night. He had gone to the rocks where there would be less lights reflecting. His mind had chased after some beauty to fill it. The rocks were at least more alone, more naked from the world. On this morning his arms and hands felt heavy with ach- ing. But the same sort of tenseness in his mind affected him in a different way. A voice: You're an addict. Reply: If I see you, hear you, then I know you also. Even while errect and aware he had a daze about him, as if through his eyes one could look at a mind with successive frames of glass that made his eyes look as if his brain had glass frames successively placed throughout it. His mind was an accompaniment of a past and future of scattered dreams, both past and future, yet any rush of anguish made his body proud. He had been wondering through the night into the day; His substance prowling for a hope. Lights: From expensive appartments and cliff houses had dashed fades of glimpse across the sur- face life styles. He did not want.

At sunrise, Prankster's drugged night on the beach becomes a painful mix of bodily ache, self-accusation, glasslike perception, and longing.

The page gives Prankster a close interior view rather than treating him only as one of the house figures. His addiction speaks as an accusing voice, while the rocks, lights, glass frames, and expensive cliff houses turn the beach into a field of distorted desire and exclusion.
