Jagg offs. I mean I'm sorry there dead, but the're still jaff offs. Where are we going? My head was begining to grow heavy and I could feel the pounding coming. All three of us had eyes, that were buldging. Let's get something to eat. Upstreet Mount Lebanon. They all will be there, and you two can brag about the night. Fuck you Dandy. We pulled up in front of the only all night restraunt in Mount Lebanon, and got out of the car. As we were walking across the street, Murphy said: Check those two chicks. There were two girls sitting alone in a car outside the restraunt. I am going to introduce myself, as the great cloak and dagger man, Murphy said. He left us as we went in the door, and I watched him stroll like a cock robin down toward the girls. There was excitement in flourish finding itself foolish in the last moments of an unslept morning. Anouther morning I'll catch the sun coming up, and then pass away, I thought. When the world turns, I'll be sleeping again in the heat of booze sweat. But right now I'll dance my way to the counter and yell for home fries and eggs. I felt like two different directions were passing themslves at the smae point. I knew each would follow its own course, and that they probably wouldn't be back again for a million years. After hour cafe of the rich, with the multicolored light of the depths building on its absurdity. It was jubilee time again, with everyone reminding each other that we must not let it end. Murph came in the door and walked across the floor and sat down next to me. He was looking streight ahead with a smirk on his mouth, when he said: I just slapped one of those girls right across the face. Why did you do that Murphy, I questioned?

After the men stop at an all-night Mount Lebanon restaurant, Murphy goes outside to hit on two girls, slaps one across the face when she mocks him, and drags the whole exhausted night toward yet another police scene.

The energy is spent and grotesque now, less triumphant than automatic, as if violence is simply the next thing that happens when the night runs long enough. Murphy's slap is petty and ugly, and the narrator already feels the seconds closing in before the cops even enter.

O'Dandy's grief stays curdled - 'I mean I'm sorry there dead, but the're still jaff offs' - as the three, heads 'pounding' and eyes 'buldging,' pull up at 'the only all night restraunt in Mount Lebanon.' Murphy spots 'two chicks' in a parked car and 'strolls like a cock robin' to introduce himself as 'the great cloak and dagger man,' while the narrator feels 'two different directions... passing themslves / at the same point,' each bound to its own course and unlikely to meet again 'for a million years.' Naming the place an 'After hour cafe of the rich, with the / multicolored light of the depths,' he resolves to 'dance my way to the counter and yell for / home fries and eggs' - then Murphy returns smirking to announce 'I just slapped one of those girls right across the face.'
